Midnight Meadow

“Elegant Florals” painting from class at Whimsy Paint and Sip March 202

I have whitespaceaphobia. When I’m faced with a blank canvas/page/area, I freeze. Every criticism, every doubt from my subconscious envelopes me and sucks my creativity like an inspiration vampire.

That’s why I go to painting classes. They provide the color palette, the brushes, the step-by-step instructions; all I have to do is follow the directions.

This piece was a free for all. It started simply enough by painting the canvas black. But, after that, every application of color was blind. Unable to anticipate what was next, I found it daunting to take a step in any direction.

I had to make a leap of faith.

When writing, I’ve learned to allow the characters to write their story for me. This was the first time I’d ever let the colors tell me their story.

I think I like the result.
